Allen Harper from Two And A Half Men is one of the most memorable characters to ever appear on TV. His stinginess and sponging off his rich brother, Charlie had the season on for 10 Seasons straight. Why was he so constantly poor? He was portrayed as a chiropractor in Los Angeles, someone who didn’t do much business and didn’t earn a lot. But does studying Chiropractic methods differ from Physiotherapy or is one doomed to be a hand-to-mouth professional for the rest of their lives?
In truth, being a Chiropractor can be something that is difficult to accomplish, as it requires years of interning, earning expensive degrees and hundreds of hours put in to be one of the most sought-after experts in this field. But, imagine being there to take care of those suffering and looking to you for their healing. It’s an experience beyond all other – you are the giver of hope and the shepherd through the dark times a patient can go through.
Spinesport.org describes Chiropractic as: “a health care profession that diagnoses, treats and assists in the prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine. It is believed that these disorders affect your general health via the nervous system. A chiropractor’s purpose is to restore function and stability to your spine. They do this by realigning the vertebrae in your spine using spinal manipulation. This releases tension in your spine, and allows for muscles to be relaxed. Pain associated with the misalignment, such as back pain, neck pain and headaches, is relieved.
The website also goes on to explain Physical Therapy as: “a health care profession that evaluates, diagnoses, and provides treatment to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function throughout your life. A physical therapist provides treatment when your movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors. Components of movement and function that are evaluated by a physical therapist include strength, range of motion, flexibility, balance, posture, body mechanics, coordination, endurance and general mobility such as walking, stair climbing, and getting in and out of a chair or bed.
In summary, a physical therapist is more generalized to overall health of a patient, while a chiropractor is specialized to adjusting the alignment of the spine. Depending on what career you plan on exploring, choose either of the two, as both are rewarding and deeply satisfying.
